What is Shamanism (Copy)

Shamanism has become quite the buzzword in the 21st century. A quick search online can result in an “insta-shaman” look complete with a rattle, a smudge stick, feathers, and a poncho. Today it’s also possible to complete an online course and within a relatively short amount of time…Boom! You’re a certified shaman.

So what is the heart of shamanism?

Shamanism is an ancient practice of mind, body, and spirit healing predating written history. This practice has existed across cultures and may date back as far as 100,000 years.

Shamanic healers collaborate with benevolent spirits to facilitate energetic clearing by releasing dense energies, promote personal and ancestral healing, and create a blueprint for health and happiness.

What is a Shaman?

The word shaman comes from the indigenous people of Siberia and means, "one who sees in the dark." Through training and initiation, shamans are those who have access to the worlds of spirit.

I do not call myself a shaman nor do I consider myself a shaman. That title, I strongly feel, should be held for those born into a shamanic lineage. Instead, I refer to myself as a "shamanic energy medicine practitioner" or "shamanic energy healer." I’m very clear…I was born and raised in the American Midwest and have devoted myself to shamanic practices born of indigenous cultures with the highest level of respect.
